Care Boxes are still in development, with a pilot launch planned for early 2027. Here is why we're creating them, and how the project is growing.
What are Care Boxes?
Care Boxes are a developing initiative, designed to offer comfort, connection and wellbeing support through carefully chosen, accessible resources. Each box will be hand-packed with gentle items - a soft thing, a warm thing, a sensory thing, a note. Nothing performative. Just care.
Why we are creating them
Too often, resources around cancer and mental wellbeing are not made with Deaf people in mind. We want to change that - creating something inclusive, relevant and genuinely comforting for Deaf people affected by cancer and mental wellbeing challenges.
A Care Box is a tangible reminder that you are not alone, made by people who understand what that can mean.
Project progress
Packaging purchased
We've already bought the care box packaging, so the boxes themselves are ready and waiting.
Materials being tested
We're currently testing the materials that will go inside each box, to make sure everything is accessible, durable and high-quality.
Custom products in development
Our illustrator is creating amazing products - a journal, mindfulness card, postcard, eye mask and tote bag - all designed specifically for Deaf people affected by cancer and mental wellbeing.
Pilot launch planned for early 2027
We're bringing everything to life slowly and gently, and we plan to launch our first pilot Care Boxes in early 2027.
Accessibility first
Accessibility is not an afterthought - it is where we begin. Every item is being considered and tested with Deaf accessibility in mind from the very start of the design process, so the finished boxes feel thoughtful, usable and made for our community.
Future plans
After the pilot, we'll listen carefully to feedback from the people who receive the first boxes, and use it to shape how Care Boxes grow in the future.
